ISG, a construction services company, has successfully delivered the global headquarters for Ocean Network Express (ONE), located at the award-winning Marina One East Tower, Singapore.
Strategically located within the bustling financial district of Marina Bay, the 50,000 sq ft headquarters is a first for the sixth largest maritime carrier in the world, formed through the merger of Japan’s three shipping titans, namely, Nippon Yusen KK, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd.
As the management contractor, ISG worked alongside global design firm Gensler, who were the lead designer and appointed client representative.
A form of contract of this sort presents design flexibilities to a certain degree, allowing for changes during the construction, and transparency in relation to procurement.
Some of the noteworthy features of this project include a feature staircase connecting two floors internally, meeting rooms replicating the look of shipping containers in ONE’s signature magenta and a backdrop wall installation of the world map, made of reclaimed wood.
Jeff Tee, ISG’s project manager, said: “To appreciate the cultural nuances, the design direction was conceptualised in Japan, while the material specifications and detailed design were managed by the consultant’s local team in Singapore. To ensure seamless delivery in between design variations across two countries, maintaining effective communication between all stakeholders was most critical.”
The project was completed within 16 weeks, following an 8-week construction period, with ISG delivering an entire fit out of two floors within the Grade A office tower, comprising 31 meeting and conference suites, open and enclosed office areas, 2 crisis recovery centres and 4,000 sq ft cafeteria.
