ISG in Singapore has been appointed to deliver Additions & Alterations (A&A) works for the Mandarin Orchard Hotel to rejuvenate its façade and key front-of-the-house areas including the lobby, reception, meeting and function rooms. The hotel is known for being among the largest in Singapore with 1077 guestrooms, and the largest on Orchard Road, Singapore’s famed shopping belt.

Managed by Meritus Hotel and Resorts, the flagship five-star hotel renowned for its Asian hospitality was a landmark when it was first completed in 1957. This was partly because it was the tallest building in the Orchard Road vicinity then, and it had a revolving rooftop French restaurant, Top of the M offering dazzling views of Singapore’s pulsating cityscape. Back then, The Top of the M restaurant was popular for date nights and business lunches. Today, it is an exclusive club lounge that offers guests 360-degree views of the Singapore skyline from the lounge’s floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

In the past, the main lobby was also referred to as the Mandarin Square, where Meritus Ambassadors, elegant in their iconic red cheongsam would greet guests with warm smiles.

This year, as the Mandarin Orchard marks its 64th year since opening its doors decades ago, ISG will be delivering a scheme that rejuvenates key front-of-the-house areas including the lobby, reception, meeting and function rooms, façade and canopy replacements. Ventilation upgrade and structure reinforcement works will also be completed as part of the refurbishment.

The new hotel reception and lobby design that is now in progress, is steeped in modernity while remaining sensitive to the hotel’s rich history and long-held tradition of providing world-class Asian hospitality. With an estimated project timeline of six months, works will be done in a live environment as the hotel continues to serve guests.
